2014 - The Caribbean Challenge Initiative’s (CCI) aims are to preserve and protect the region’s marine and coastal environment. CCI’s “20 by 20 Goal” targets the protection of at least 20% of the Caribbean’s marine and coastal environment by 2020. 9 Caribbean governments and 15 corporations have together made a series of bold commitments towards these aims.

This day is observed annually on May 22 and for 2014 aims to raise awareness on the importance of biodiversity for islands and the need for island states to sustainably manage their resources.

The Hague, April 25, 2014 - A summit that brought together more than 600 ocean stakeholders – including 80 ministers from across the world, ocean science experts, business leaders, philanthropists and heads of international organizations – committed to a set of concrete actions responding to the urgency for restoring productive, resilient oceans that drive broad-based blue growth and deliver food security.
