We joined the CCI in May 2013.
Why did your company/organization join the CCI?
The Sandals Foundation believes that we all need to play our part in preserving our precious resources here in the Caribbean.
How is the CCI important to marine and coastal conservation in the Caribbean?
Developing strong Partnerships with Governments, NGOS and Private sector is crucial to bring more awareness and commitment to managing marine protected areas as well as looking at sustainable funding mechanisms.
What are your company's main conservation priority actions under the CCI?
The Sandals Foundation manages marine protected areas in Jamaica, works in partnership with Carib Save to establish linkages between Tourism and conservation, Funds Turtle conservation in Jamaica and Antigua, works alongside UWI and Dr. Dayne Buddho to educate communities and Fishers on the invasive Lionfish (Jamaica, Bahamas and St.Lucia). SF works in schools across the Caribbean to educate students and develop Environmental clubs in order to foster an understanding in students of ways in which they can play their part in Marine, Coral reef and Endangered Species preservation.
Why is conservation important to your company/organization? How does conservation benefit you?
The idea of bringing multiple partners on board and having the partners make firm commitments to their approach in conservation is the right way forward. The follow through will be crucial to establishing best practice.

Jamaican raised Adam is the CEO of Sandals Resorts International (SRI), which owns and operates Caribbean-based Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts. Heidi Clarke is Director of the Sandals Foundation, the non-profit arm of Sandals Resorts International that focuses on the three key areas of education, environment and community in the Caribbean.As well as managing more than 100 Sandals Foundation programs, Clarke oversees the development and ongoing maintenance of relationships with other non-profit organizations in the Caribbean community, corporate partners and volunteers.In her capacity as Director, Clarke oversees the management of two Caribbean Marine Sanctuaries and provides leadership support to The Caribbean Fish Sanctuary Partnership Initiative (C-Fish).Contact CCI
